Birding at Vetal Tekdi (#2)

June 18, 2014 2 comments

This weekend we thought of going to Vetal Tekdi again, however we decided to take a different route. Once you park the car at ARAI, you basically have two trails. One which goes to the Quarry, and the other one which goes to the opposite side. Last time we had gone to Quarry side, so this time we decided to go the other side. Within 15 minutes we realized there is very less birding activity on this route.

As we walked along, we saw another road going down, so we decided to take it. as we reached the lowest point, we saw the commoners; bulbul, bee-eaters, pea fowls, sunbirds and so on. There was one new addition to the list.. the Pale billed flowerpecker.

Now it was time to climb the small peak.. and just as we started, I saw two francolins just run away in a fury!.. There was no chance I could click them as they were too fast! 😦 .. As we climbed the peak, we saw a big group of pea fowls (At-least 8-9) of them.. Beautiful sight indeed. Once we reached the top, and walked a little further, the trail led to the quarry again! So we kind of created a full circle this time.. For people who are going purely for birding, I would suggest to head the quarry straight away!

So here are the birds we saw this time at Vetal Tekdi..
